Where are the witches and why are their brooms (or vice versa)? There is one thing for certain with witches: they are not accessible through logical or critical or even rational discussion. Their objectives are obscure, hidden in mists of antithetical formulae. And who are they? That would depend upon your point of view: emblems of otherness, dangerous and antisocial, or earth-mother-feminists projected forward from a deep pagan autonomy, or... You may fill in the names yourself -- Simone de Beauvoir leading a squad of riot grrrls, or Mata Hari breaking bread with Virginia Woolf? Whoever they are, they have abandoned the myth of objectivity, and speak only to the secret voices of the circle and the pentagram. The important point is the dance, round and round, which has been going on forever.
