Silver Surfer #2: Exile

A wall-mounted 4-channel sound and light sculpture incorporating three 12” woofers and a smaller satellite. 3 linear lasers are bounced off mylar film on each speaker, which ripples as low frequencies are played, creating kinetic, ever-changing patterns on the wall. The 4-channel electroacoustic composition uses intricate phase and doppler shifts to develop a multidimensional soundspace throughout the room. Superheroes condense our deep longing for justice and our desire for safety. One of a series of works devoted to the subject, this abstract portrait of the lonely and tireless Silver Surfer expands the comic-book rescuer into a giant, hypnotic amalgam of whirling sound and throbbing light.
